(JTA) — A Catholic school in Connecticut apologized to a state public school after its students used anti-Semitic chants during a lacrosse game.
During the May 30 state playoff game at Staples High School in Westport, fans seated in Fairfield College Preparatory School’s student section chanted “Happy Hanukkah” and “We have Christmas” and sang “The Dreidel Song,” directed at Jewish players on the Staples team.
Religious leaders, representatives of the Anti-Defamation League and leaders of Fairfield Prep met Tuesday to discuss the anti-Semitic taunting.
About one-third of the Staples team is Jewish, according to local reports.

(JTA) — Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan attacked Jews and Judaism during a three-hour sermon from his pulpit at Mosque Maryam in Chicago.
The May 27 sermon was his first major public speaking appearance since February, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

(JTA) — The Anti-Defamation League said an Illinois congressman told the group that he was misquoted in an article claimed that he had praised Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
An ADL official told JTA on Friday that the group had reached out to Rep. (JTA) — Murders committed by white supremacists in the United States more than doubled in 2017 over the previous year, and they were responsible for 18 of the total 34 extremist-related killings in the country, according to a new Anti-Defamation League report.
Nine of the deaths were linked to Islamic extremists, the report says.
The report, “Murder and Extremism in the United States in 2017,” was released Wednesday by the ADL’s Center of Extremism. According to the numbers, 2017 was the fifth deadliest year on record for extremist violence since 1970.

(JTA) — The Anti-Defamation League expressed concern following recent incidents in Manhattan featuring vandalism and anti-Semitic graffiti.
The targets included three Upper East Side businesses, private apartments and other public spaces, ADL said Thursday citing reports. It included “explicit anti-Semitic symbols, as well as racist” ones. ADL did not say when the incidents took place.
