Israel Commits to Gaza Reconstruction in Hamas Cease-fire Deal

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel has committed to the reconstruction of Gaza and discussing the possibility of airports and seaports in the Hamas-controlled coastal territory.

Details have begun to emerge regarding these and other terms of the Egyptian-brokered cease-fire deal between Israel and Hamas, Haaretz reported  Thursday. Its implementation began Wednesday following months of escalating tensions between the two sides.

Israel Closes Gaza Crossing to Fuel Shipments in Response to Arson Balloons

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel froze fuel and gas shipments into Gaza though the main border crossing with Gaza over the continued arson kite and balloon attacks on southern Israel.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman issued the order for the Kerem Shalom crossing on Wednesday after the flying firebombs sparked seven fires. Food, medicine and humanitarian aid will still be permitted to pass into Gaza. The crossing will be closed “until further notice,” Liberman said.

Kerem Shalom is the only crossing for commercial goods and the main crossing for humanitarian aid between Israel and Gaza.

(JTA) — Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is under fire from some parts of the Palestinian world for his decision to attend the World Cup final in Moscow amid increased tension between Israel and Gaza.
