Hamas Paid Family of 8-Month-Old To Say She Died During Gaza Border Clashes

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Hamas paid the family of an 8-month-old baby to say she died during clashes between Palestinian protesters and Israeli troops, a family member said.

Mahmoud Omar, 20, told Israeli investigators that his 8-month-old cousin Layla al-Ghandour died of a blood disease, the same disease the baby’s brother died from a year earlier. He said he heard about his cousin’s death while protesting at the border in early May.

Israel Hits Hamas Targets In Retaliatory Attack

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel said its airstrikes hit nine Hamas targets in Gaza after three rockets were fired from Gaza on southern Israeli communities.

The Israeli strikes targeted two military compounds and a munition manufacturing site in the northern Gaza Strip. The Israel Defense Forces said they were also in response to the arson attacks from explosive kites and balloons that have been flown into Israel causing damage to thousands of acres of agricultural fields and woodlands.

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the Trump administration and the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, for its support of Israel during a U.N. General Assembly emergency meeting on Gaza.

On Wednesday evening, the General Assembly in a 120-8 vote passed a resolution condemning Israel for an “excessive use of force” during weekly Palestinian protests on the Gaza border and rejected a U.S. bid to amend the resolution to also condemn Hamas, the terrorist group that controls the Gaza Strip. (JTA) — A U.S.-drafted statement condemning rocket attacks on Israel was blocked in the United Nations Security Council was blocked by Kuwait.

Kuwait is a non-permanent member of the council and represents the Arab countries.

It blocked the resolution proposed on Wednesday ahead of an emergency Security Council meeting called by the United States to discuss the nearly 24 hours of rocket and mortar strikes by Hamas and Islamic Jihad from the Gaza Strip on southern Israeli communities.

Israeli Navy Stops Gaza Boat Trying To Break Blockade

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s Navy stopped a boat carrying 17 Palestinians from Gaza that attempted to breach the maritime blockade of the coastal strip.

The boat was stopped late Tuesday afternoon and towed to the southern Israeli port of Ashdod, according to the Israel Defense Forces. The Navy fired warning shots when the boat crossed the blockade line, according to Haaretz.
