BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (JTA) — The death of Alberto Nisman, the special prosecutor in the AMIA Jewish center bombing in Buenos Aires, will forever be linked to the attack, the center’s president told thousands at a gathering marking the bombing’s 23rd anniversary.

“We know the truth about the AMIA massacre due to the investigation by a prosecutor who honored his work, even surrendering his own life like Alberto Nisman” in order to fulfill his duty, Agustin Zbar said Tuesday at a commemoration. “Hopefully soon enough we will have light shed on the details of his tragic end. ACLU urges senators to oppose bill targeting Israel boycotts

NEW YORK (JTA) — The American Civil Liberties Union called on U.S. senators to oppose a measure targeting boycotts of Israel and its settlements.

The Israel Anti-Boycott Act, introduced in March by Sens. Ben Cardin, D-Md., and Rob Portman, R-Ohio, would expand 1970s-era laws that make illegal compliance with boycotts of Israel sponsored by governments — laws inspired at the time by the Arab League boycott of Israel — to include boycotts backed by international organizations. Those adhering to boycotts would be the subject of fines.

While the measure is aimed at the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, it also targets efforts…

Spanish judges void 2 municipal BDS motions, calling them racist

(JTA) — Spanish judges scrapped motions favoring a boycott of Israel that were passed last year by two city councils.

The rulings last week by separate tribunals in two of Spain’s autonomous regions bring to 20 the number of municipalities that over the past three years have either reversed their motions of support for an Israel boycott or had them nullified by the judiciary.

In the northern region of Galicia, an administrative court in the capital of Santiago de Compostela reversed a motion passed March 31 by the city council of Teo, a town of 18,000, following a lawsuit filed…

Iran used Star of David as target for missile test

(JTA) — Iran used the Star of David as a target for a ballistic missile test, Israel told the United Nations.

On Wednesday, the Israeli diplomatic mission distributed to U.N. Security Council members satellite images of the site set up during a test carried out last year.

“These images prove beyond any doubt that Iran continues to seek to harm Israel,” the Israeli mission said in a Facebook post. “The Security Council must not stand by silently in the face of these Iranian violations and provocations. We call on the Council to act immediately against this dangerous threat.”

US lawmakers urge secretary of state to help Palestinian activist going on trial in Israel

WASHINGTON (JTA) — Thirty-two Democratic members of Congress have urged the secretary of state to help a Palestinian human rights activist who is going on trial in Israel.

In a letter sent Wednesday, the lawmakers asked Rex Tillerson to utilize his influence in the case of Issa Amro, who is facing charges connected to protests he organized in Hebron, his West Bank hometown, against the Israeli occupation and expansion of settlements.

U.S. Reps. Keith Ellison and Betty McCollum, both of Minnesota, Earl Blumenauer of Oregon, and Mark Pocan of Wisconsin circulated the letter organized by the U.S. Campaign for…
